Kroger hosts Nov. 25 fund drive for American Red Cross disaster relief

**For immediate release**

PEORIA – As wildfires race across Southern California, American Red Cross volunteers are setting up shelters for hundreds of evacuees. While workers are happy to help, this and other major relief efforts have put a strain on Red Cross disaster resources.

In the past year the Red Cross has responded to a whopping 70 large-scale disasters – from Western wildfires to hurricanes to Midwestern tornadoes and floods. In central Illinois alone, the Red Cross served over 2,800 meals and distributed 200 clean-up kits to Illinois River flood victims.

To continue providing disaster victims everywhere with vital services –food, shelter, counseling, comfort – the Red Cross needs your help. As part of its Campaign for Disaster Relief, the Red Cross hopes to raise $100 million by January 2009. To support the effort, the Central Illinois Chapter is partnering with Tri-County Kroger stores for a one-day fund drive on Tuesday, Nov. 25.

WHAT: Customers can support Red Cross disaster relief services by donating at area Kroger stores. Red Cross volunteers will staff tables with donation canisters. Contributions also can be made at the register.

WHEN: Red Cross volunteers will be available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25. Register donations continue all night.

WHERE: Participating Kroger locations include:

Peoria – 3103 W. Harmon Highway; 2321 N. Wisconsin Ave.; 801 W. Lake Ave.; 9219 N. Lindbergh Drive; 3311 N. Sterling Ave.

Bartonville – 1405 W. Garfield Ave. Chillicothe – 603 S. Fourth St.

East Peoria – 201 S. Main St. Morton – 1001 W. Jackson St.

Pekin – 1607 Broadway St. Washington – 20 Cherry Tree Shopping Center

Supporters also may call the Red Cross Central Illinois Chapter, (309) 677-7272, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 25; bring donations to the chapter, 311 W. John H. Gwynn Jr. Ave. in Peoria; or donate online anytime to disaster relief efforts by visiting redcrossillinois.org
