City of Peoria hires new engineer

Subject: Appointment of City Engineer

We are pleased to announce that Jeffrey M. Smith, PE has been hired to serve the City of Peoria as City Engineer replacing Gene Hewitt who retired in 2008. Mr. Smith will begin his duties with the City on Monday, January 12, 2009.

Mr. Smith has previously served as City Engineer in Gillette, Wyoming and in Champaign, Illinois. For the past five years, Mr. Smith has been the President of Castleford Group, Inc. located in Champaign, Illinois. Mr. Smith has a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry and in Civil Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois. He has extensive experience in his previous roles in City Engineering he and will be able to help move our engineering service groups forward to help address the many Capital needs identified in the City’s Community Investment Plan.
