Former LaHood staffer given expanded role

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Aaron Schock (R-IL) announced today he has named Nate Hurn as his Veterans Policy Advisor in addition to his position as a Constituent Services Specialist.

Nate Hurn has extensive experience helping solve problems for veterans as a constituent services specialist for former Congressman Ray LaHood. Schock is retaining Hurn in that role and adding the role of serving as veterans issues policy advisor.

The constituent services function that a representative provides, helps constituents solve problems beyond their ability to cope with. A policy advisor advises the representative on legislative issues and policy changes for a particular subject matter. Hurn’s new role will combine both responsibilities.

Although congressional staff in district offices rarely serve as policy advisors, Schock believes it makes sense to give Hurn this additional role because of the first-hand experience he has in working with veterans. Nate knows where the problems in the Veterans Administration are and has ideas on how to fix them.

“As a former veteran himself, Nate understands the specific needs of the veterans community,” said Schock. That is why I have given him the additional responsibility of serving as my policy advisor on veterans issues as well as handling constituent services for veterans with problems they need help in solving.”

“I’m confident Nate’s expanded responsibilities dealing with veterans policy issues will increase my effectiveness in advocating on behalf of our nation’s veterans,” concluded Schock.

Nate will be responsible for crafting Congressman Schock’s strategic plan to improve the functions of the veteran’s system drawing on his insights from resolving so many problems veterans have brought to him over the years.

He will work out of the Peoria office and the contact information is:
